Magdalena Rutová, The Incredible Adventures of Florentino Flowers, an Honest Pirate in the Service of Madame L

GAVU – Museum Café

29. 9.– 30. 12. 2022

Curated by Veronika Lochmanová

The Museum Café continues to present Czech illustration with an exhibition of works by Magdalena Rutová (*1998). A graduate from the Studio of Illustration and Graphic Design at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, she belongs to the circle of authors around the Baobab publishing house, with which the gallery has long cooperated. Her illustrations for Marek Toman’s book were awarded the Golden Ribbon in 2020. The book tells the story of a boy from a good family who, in the early 18th century, finds himself on a pirate ship commanded by the terrible Captain James Book. To survive, he must complete unusual literary tasks. He can only rely on the help of the dubious existences around him – and his own wits. The exhibition will be accompanied by six original illustrations and two color prints from the yet unpublished book Octopus Pictus. And the author will also enrich the children’s corner, known as the Gallery under the Baobab, with a new artistic realization.
