The Josef Flejšar (1922-2010) exhibition, prepared together with the keeper of the largest Czech collection of posters, Terry’s Socks (which takes care of the artist’s estate), contains a small selection of works by this leading creator of Czechoslovak graphic design, focusing on his projects for the Karlovy Vary region. In the 1980s, Flejšar regularly collaborated with local museums — in Karlovy Vary, Aachen, and especially Cheb. Indeed, GAVU Cheb organised a solo show of his posters in 1982. Flejšar’s authorial handwriting, based on original calligraphy and brush-line drawing, can be easily recognised. His scope was broad; in addition to posters, Flejšar also worked in other areas of applied graphics (books, visual styling), as well as on illustrations, exhibition design, and monumental creations.
