Exhibition from the Depository
3. 4.–5. 10. 2025
Curator Marcel Fišer
František Hodonský, painter, graphic artist and occasional sculptor, was born on 19 February 1945. GAVU Cheb commemorates his 80th birthday with a small exhibition presenting numerous of his works from the museum collection. These cover different periods, the first of which dates back to the time before he attended the Academy. The exhibited pieces also represent the various disciplines he dedicated himself to, i.e. paintings, preparatory drawings, and one graphic matrix, which Hodonský displays as autonomous works. Also shown in the exhibition is a painting by Milan Kunc from the time of their joint studies at the Academy, when they exchanged works; it was donated to GAVU by Hodonský. The artist spent his childhood in South Moravia by the river Dyje, where he developed a lasting relationship with the floodplain forests and floodplain landscapes along the river. Before 1989 he worked in various professions, for instance as a promotional artist and a restorer. In 1990, Hodonský was appointed head of the Landscape studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he worked until 1997, earning the title of professor.
